Veteran actor Dustin Nguyen (“21 Jump Street”) has joined the cast of Peacock’s and A24’s “Superfakes,” created by “Beef” writer Alice Ju and starring Lucy Liu.

In the series, Liu will recur as a “small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer who enters a dangerous black-market underworld in order to fund a life of suburban respectability for her family,” per the logline. “Industry” star Ken Leung stars as her husband.

Nguyen joins as Henry, described as “a shifty, old-school, tattooed gangster. A man of many contradictions: commanding but insecure, ruthless but loyal, frequently paranoid, always superstitious. He projects confidence but is a man adrift, a cockroach who has survived a decades-long career of racketeering and crime, as much by luck as by skill.”

“Superfakes,” which was announced in January 2025 with a series order from Peacock, also stars Bohan Phoenix, Michelle Jones Lee and Keith Leung.

“Superfakes” is executive produced by Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie; Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke for 3 Arts; Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush and Liu. The series hails from Emmy-winner Ju, whose writing and producing credits include “Beef” and “Poker Face.” A24 and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, also produce.

Nguyen has made a bit of a comeback in the U.S. in recent years, including his role as Son Pham on “Dope Thief,” the Netflix film “Blade of the 47 Ronin” and the crime drama film “The Accidental Getaway Driver,” which premiered at Sundance in 2023. He also appeared in Justin Lin’s series “Warrior” and the “47 Ronin” sequel. Prior to that, Nguyen spent several years as a successful filmmaker and star in Vietnam.

Nguyen is repped by Buchwald and JDS.
