Sony Pictures' 3000 Pictures is behind 'Single Female,' the new take on the 1992 thriller that starred Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell are bringing a 1990s thriller favorite back to life.
3000 Pictures, a division of Sony Pictures, has hired Bodies Bodies Bodies screenwriter Sarah DeLappe to pen the script for Single Female, with Ortega and Russell attached to star. The project is a remake of the 1992 feature Single White Female that adapted author John Lutz’s novel SWF Seeks Same and starred Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Ortega and Russell serve as producers alongside Stacey Sher and Marisa Paiva. The news of Ortega and Russell leading the movie was announced last year.
Single White Female follows Allison (Fonda), who rents a room in her apartment to Hedra (Leigh) and begins to get suspicious about her tenant’s strange behavior. The film collected $84.1 million at the global box office ($195.8 million today).
Ortega is currently in production on the third season of the Netflix series Wednesday. She is set to star in Taika Waititi’s Sony feature Klara and the Sun, in addition to J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond that Warner Bros. will release later this year.
Russell will soon star in Hope from director Na Hong-jin. The actress recently made her stage debut in The Effect and is known for her breakout role in Luca Guadagnino’s film Bones and All opposite Timothée Chalamet.
DeLappe is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360 and Schreck Rose. Ortega is repped by by CAA and Jackoway Austen. Russell is repped by UTA and Lichter Grossman.
Deadline was first to report on DeLappe’s involvement.
