Logo text Jonathan Majors is getting started on a new feature as he continues to pursue projects outside of the studio system following his 2023 conviction for assault and harassment.

Majors is set to star in writer-director Kyle Rankins action movie that hails from The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend. The title and plot details have not yet been shared for the film that launched production this week in South Carolina and has been described as being in the vein of Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers.

Producers include Ben Shapiro for Daily Wire and Dallas Sonnier for Bonfire Legend. Travis Mills, Lillian Campbell and Sydney Aucreman are also producing. The two production companies previously collaborated with Rankin on his 2020 film Run Hide Fight that starred Isabel May and Thomas Jane and premiered at the Venice Film Festival. blogherads.adq.push(function () { blogherads .defineSlot( 'medrec', 'gpt-article-mid-article-uid0' ) .setTargeting( 'pos', ["mid-article1","mid-articleX","mid","mid-article"] ) .setTargeting( 'viewable', 'yes' ) .setSubAdUnitPath("ros\/mid-article") .addSize([[300,250],[2,2],[300,251],[620,350],[2,4],[4,2],[320,480],[620,366]]) .setClsOptimization("minsize") ; }); Related Stories News MAGA vs. MAGA: Who's Winning the Right Wing Media Meltdown? Shapiro took to social media Thursday to react to the news about the film with his post, Youre not going to BELIEVE what were doing.

After his conviction that stemmed from an incident with ex-partner Grace Jabbari, Majors was dropped by Marvel as villain Kang the Conqueror and also let go from the starring role of Dennis Rodman in Lionsgates 48 Hours in Vegas ahead of production. The actor has yet to book studio work since then but did land a role in the indie film Merciless from director Martin Villeneuve.

Majors starred in the bodybuilding drama Magazine Dreams, which was a sensation at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Searchlight acquired the title in a bidding war but dropped the film the next year following the stars conviction, and Briarcliff Entertainment ultimately released it in 2025. blogherads.adq.push(function () { blogherads .defineSlot( 'medrec', 'gpt-dsk-tab-mid-article2-uid1' ) .setTargeting( 'pos', ["mid","mid-article2","mid-articleX"] ) .setTargeting( 'viewable', 'yes' ) .setSubAdUnitPath("ros\/mid-article2") .addSize([[300,250],[300,251],[620,350],[2,4],[4,2],[320,480],[620,366]]) .setClsOptimization("minsize") ; });

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter for a cover story timed to Magazine Dreams release, Majors said he had been reading scripts and taking meetings in hopes of resuming his acting career: Do I hope to make more movies? Absolutely. That is my intention. But thats not my call. I dont have a studio. And Ive given up control.

Deadline was first to report on the new film starting production.
