Maya Rudolph will make her Broadway debut in Oh, Mary!

The SNL star will take over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Cole Escola’s play starting April 28 for an eight-week engagement through June 20. She is the latest to take on the role, originated by Escola, following current ‘Mary’ John Cameron Mitchell, Jinkx Monsoon, Jane Krakowski, Tituss Burgess, Betty Gilpin and Hannah Solow.

In Escola’s play, Mary is reimagined as a wannabe cabaret star with a predilection for drinking. Escola won a Tony Award for their portrayal of Mary and Sam Pinkleton won a Tony for his direction.

“Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamed of being Cole Escola,” Rudolph said. “Oh, Mary! is the funniest play I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of plays, you’d be surprised. It’s such an honor to play the role of Mary, especially after so many iconic Marys have come before me. So making my Broadway debut in the role of a lifetime – as a miserable, suffocated, alcoholic woman – is a real dream come true.”

Rudolph is also starring in Loot on Apple TV+ and she voices Connie the Hormone Mistress on the animated series Big Mouth.

The Broadway production also extended its run on Broadway through Jan. 3, 2027. The play opened on Broadway on July 11, 2024 at the Lyceum Theatre, and also has an ongoing production on the West End, as well as a North American tour set to launch in Hartford, Conn. in Sept. 2026.
