Phoenix Suns' Dillon Brooks was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early March 6 in Scottsdale, according to police.

Scottsdale police stopped a vehicle Brooks was driving about 1 a.m. on Scottsdale Road just south of Thunderbird Road, according to Sgt. Allison Sempsis, a police department spokesperson. The officer told Brooks he was pulled over for moving out of his lane six times while being followed.

"To be honest with you, it smells like a dispensary in your car," the officer said in a body camera video released by police in the late afternoon.

After a field sobriety test, Brooks was arrested at 1:33 a.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence/impaired to the slightest degree and DUI-drugs and/or metabolite, Sempsis wrote in an email.

Brooks was taken to Scottsdale City Jail, where he was booked and released about 3:30 a.m., Sempsis said.

In Arizona, state law says people can be guilty of DUI even if their blood alcohol content is below the legal limit of 0.08% if there's evidence they are unable to safely operate a vehicle. They could also be guilty of DUI for having an illegal or non-prescribed drug in their system, the Arizona Revised Statutes say.

The city prosecutor's office ultimately will decide if charges will be filed against Brooks. The Arizona Republic requested a copy of the police report but by the afternoon of March 6 had not yet received it.

The Suns issued a statement early March 6.

“We are aware of the situation involving Dillon Brooks and are gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time.”

Brooks has missed Phoenix's last five games with a fractured left thumb that may keep him sidelined until April.

Brooks is the team's second-leading scorer, averaging nearly 21 points a game. He attended Phoenix's 105-103 loss on March 5 to the Chicago Bulls to begin a three-game homestand.

The Republic's Duane Rankin contributed to this report.
