With the regular season's conclusion, the seeds for the SEC men's basketball tournament are locked in. The Georgia Bulldogs have earned the No. 7 seed, earning them a first-round bye after their win against Mississippi State.
Georgia leapfrogged two teams to earn the first-round bye. They won against the Mississippi State Bulldogs 102-96 to conclude their regular season with a 10-8 record. That win, combined with the Missouri Tigers losing in overtime to the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Kentucky Wildcats falling to the Florida Gators, earned Georgia the No. 7 seed.
They will face the winner of the first-round game between the No. 10 seed Texas Longhorns and No. 15 Ole Miss Rebels on March 12 at 6 p.m. ET. The Bulldogs beat Texas 91-80 on Saturday, Feb. 21, but they lost to Ole Miss 97-95 in overtime, with Rebels guard Patton Pinkins hitting a buzzer-beater layup.
Georgia is considered a lock for March Madness. With a 22-9 record and an upset win over the Alabama Crimson Tide, they're expected to make the field with an at-large bid. The SEC is expected to have 11 teams in the NCAA Tournament. However, Georgia would definitely be better off winning the SEC Tournament to guarantee the spot.
The defending national champion Florida Gators clinched the regular-season SEC title. The Gators have an 11-game winning streak and are looking like a Final Four contender.
Alabama and Arkansas are No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Both are 13-5 in conference play. Vanderbilt took the No. 4 seed after its win against Tennessee, which is No. 5. Texas A&M rose to the No. 6 spot with its win against LSU.
