Former UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena is set to return to action against Carlos Prates in a main event set for a UFC Fight Night event in Perth, Australia on May 2.

The UFC announced the matchup Saturday following an initial report from ESPN.

The fight serves as Della Maddalena’s first appearance since losing his title to Islam Makhachev this past November. Prior to that unanimous decision loss, Della Maddalena was undefeated in the UFC, which includes a stunning performance to defeat Belal Muhammad to become champion.

Now he’ll look to get back on track while headlining a card in his hometown in May.

Meanwhile, Prates has emerged as one of the most exciting welterweights on the entire UFC roster while also building a two-fight win streak after his only loss in the octagon — a decision to Ian Machado Garry.

Since that setback, Prates has demolished former welterweight champion Leon Edwards and Geoff Neal in back-to-back fights. He’ll look to make it three in a row when he faces Della Maddalena in May.

With Della Maddalena vs. Prates set as the main event, the UFC is expected to announce more fights for the card headed to Perth in the coming weeks.
