Landfill Collapse Kills at Least 30 in Guinea's Capital, Hours Before the Dump Was Set to Close
A mountain of refuse at the largest landfill in Conakry, Guinea's capital, collapsed onto nearby homes early Sunday, killing at least 30 people and injuring 22, six of them seriously. The disaster struck around 2 a.m. after heavy overnight rain, burying residents as they slept.
