ICE Officer Charged in Minneapolis Shooting Walks Free in Texas as Abbott Sits on Extradition Request
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer charged with shooting a man in Minneapolis and lying about it was released from a Texas jail on Thursday, after a federal judge said he could not force Gov. Greg Abbott to sign the extradition warrant that would send him back to Minnesota for trial. Christian Castro walked out of a Brownsville detention center at dawn, waved at the cameras waiting for him, and left in an SUV. Under Texas law, absent an extradition order, he could not be held longer than 90 days. Thursday was day 90.
