Ratko Mladic, the "Butcher of Bosnia" Convicted of Genocide, Dies in Prison at 84
Ratko Mladic, the Bosnian Serb general convicted of genocide for the Srebrenica massacre, died Thursday at a United Nations prison hospital in the Netherlands at 84. The UN tribunal in The Hague confirmed the death of the man known as the "butcher of Bosnia," who was serving a life sentence for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He died in custody, unrepentant to the end.
