Samsung lists apps that work directly via satellite on Galaxy phones

A few days ago, Samsung revealed that it is bringing direct-to-satellite connectivity to select Galaxy phones, allowing users to communicate even when there is no cellular network coverage. Now, the company has quietly listed the apps that support this satellite connectivity feature.

Tipster @theonecid spotted a section on a Galaxy phone where Samsung lists satellite-ready apps. These apps can work even when a compatible Galaxy phone is in an area without conventional cellular connectivity. For this feature to function, Samsung has partnered with several cellular network operators in Europe, Japan, and North America.

To find compatible apps and if your Galaxy phone supports direct satellite communications, head over to Settings > Connections > Satellite. If your phone is incompatible, the Satellite section will be missing from the Connections menu. The following apps are currently listed as satellite-ready:

Unlike Apple, Samsung is not working directly with satellite operators such as AST SpaceMobile, Globalstar, or SpaceX for phone-to-satellite connectivity. Instead, it is partnering with cellular operators in several markets, which in turn work with satellite constellation providers.

In Europe, Samsung is working with MasOrange in Spain, Virgin Media O2, and Vodafone. In Japan, it is collaborating with Docomo, KDDI, Rakuten Mobile, and SoftBank. In North America, Samsung has partnered with AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.

Satellite connectivity features vary depending on the market. In some countries, you can access calling, texting, and data services, while in others only texting or emergency services are supported.

Compatible devices also vary by region. In most countries, Galaxy S22 or newer devices can connect directly to satellites. In some markets, select Galaxy A series phones are also compatible with these services.
