Resident Evil Requiem is out tomorrow, Thursday, February 26, and reviews are coming in, solidifying an all-important Metacritic score.
Well, good news, it’s pretty great.
As it stands with over 80 reviews in, Resident Evil Requiem has an 88 Metacritic score on its main platform, PS5. Half a dozen reviews are in for Xbox, PC and Switch 2, a 92, 87 and 90, respectively, but PS5 is far and away where it was reviewed most often.
That 88 now makes Resident Evil Requiem tied for the best-reviewed game of 2026 so far alongside Mewgenics’ 88 (barring any changes by the time you read this). Nothing has scored a 90 this year yet, but we have not made it through many major releases yet. Many people are looking ahead to what should be a monster one, Crimson Desert, out March 19.
How does Resident Evil Requiem stack up to other games in the series? Here’s the grand Metacritic score list:
- Resident Evil (1996)- 91
- Resident Evil 2 (1998) - 89
- Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999) - 91
- RE: Code: Veronica (2000) - 94
- Resident Evil Remake (2002) - 91
- Resident Evil Zero (2002) - 83
- Resident Evil 4 (2005)- 96
- Resident Evil 5 (2009) - 84
- Resident Evil 6 (2012) - 74
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) - 86
- Resident Evil 2 Remake (2019) - 91
- Resident Evil 3 Remake (2020) - 79
- Resident Evil Village (2021) - 84
- Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023) – 93
- Resident Evil Requiem (2026) - 88
Resident Evil RequiemCapcomSo, given what a storied series Resident Evil is, Requiem is not making the top 5 right now, and is lower than 2023’s Resident Evil 4 remake. But an 89 is a great score and should disappoint no one who hopes the game will be good. Again, it’s tied as the best-scoring game of 2026 so far. Here’s what some of the reviews are saying:
- IGN France (10/10) – “Requiem is a pivotal work that manages to reconcile two long-standing, contrasting visions of the saga. Tension and Action. It takes the best of what Resident Evil has to offer and elevates it to a level of polish rarely seen.”
- Game Informer (9.8/10) – “Requiem is Resident Evil at its finest…It is fantastic, a revelatory mix of terrifying survival-horror and action.”
- Destructoid (9.5/10) – “Resident Evil Requiem is an exceptionally well-made nostalgia romp that elevates everything special about the series, showcasing the pinnacle of both survival horror and action horror in a package that has a little bit of everything but executes it all well.”
So, there you go. See you tomorrow, when the carnage begins for everyone.
